Why shouldn't professional sports have separate leagues that permit the use of performance enhancing drugs?

Professional sports should not create leagues that allow the use of performance enhancing drugs because it would be a league that intentionally allows and supports athletes using drugs that are detrimental to their overall health. There isn't a performance enhancing drug out there that doesn't have serious side effects. Just look at something as seemingly innocent as "blood boosting." There are a variety of ways to do this, but they all go for the same result -- blood that is carrying more red blood cells than normal. The downside? A much higher risk of blood clots developing inside the body. The message being sent out to fans, especially young fans, is not a healthy and positive message.

I believe that another reason for not making leagues in which drug use is encouraged is financial reasons. If a second league is created, money will be funneled toward that league at the expense of the previous league. There are only so many fans to go around and only so much money to be obtained and spent. More and more sports and leagues means less and less money for each sport. The NFL is super popular in the United States, but imagine if it was the only professional sport in the United States. There would still be lots of people that didn't pay attention to it, but there would be a lot more people paying attention to it than before. More leagues means fewer supporting fans for existing leagues, which means less money, and professional sports is a business.
