In order to understand what reproductive structure most gymnosperms have, one must first understand what gymnosperms are. Gymnosperms are seed bearing plants that are unique in that their seeds are not produced within fruits. Instead, these seeds are said to be “naked” seeds. Four basic types of gymnosperms exist, and they are classified as 1) ginkgophyta also known as gingko, 2) cycadophyta also known as cycads, 3) gnetophyta also known as gnetophytes, and 4) either pinophyta or coniferophyta, also known as conifers. Due to their unique reproductive methods, not utilizing flowers, most gymnosperms have cones as their reproductive structure. These cones are both male and female, with male cones producing pollen, and female cones containing the ovule, or egg. Gymnosperms rely on the wind for pollination of the female cone by the male cone, and as such, male cones produce large amounts of pollen to help ensure reproduction.
Hope this helps!
