The 7 kingdom classification of organisms classifies every organism at 7 different levels, including:
- Kingdom
- Phylum
- Class
- Order
- Family
- Genus
- Species
In such a classification system, each organism is part of a much, much larger domain (at the top of the classification) and is further sub-classified at each level of this classification system, till we end up with a very particular organism.
For example, dogs are beneficial to human beings and can be classified according to this system as:
Kingdom: Animalis
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Mammalia
Order: Carnivora
Family: Canidae
Genus: Canis
Species: lupus
Here, dogs are part of a kingdom- animalia (along with all the other animals). They are then differentiated at each level of this classification system, till we have only dogs as the species.
A microorganism that is harmful to human beings, Escherichia coli O157:H7 can be similarly classified as:
Kingdom: Bacteria
Phylum: Proteobacteria
Class: Gamma Proteobacteria
Order: Enterobacteriales
Family: Enterobacteriaceae
Genus: Escherichia
Species: Escherichia coli O157:H7
One can similarly find and classify useful as well as harmful organisms.
Hope this helps.
