At the end of the novel, Jesus heals Leah and Daniel turns around to see Thacia's face. Daniel looks at Thacia and sees a "gift" in her eyes. Daniel knew that he was not worthy of Thacia's gift, but is finally free to offer her all that he possesses. Daniel and Thacia then exchange marriage vows. The "gift" in Thacia's eyes is love, and Daniel is free to accept her love because he has chosen to let go of all his hate and anger. Throughout the novel, Daniel devotes his entire life to seeking vengeance on the Roman Empire for the death of his parents. He is fueled by hate alone and continually rejects Jesus' teachings of tolerance and love. Daniel's hateful attitude has not only adversely affected his life, but also negatively affected his relationships with Leah and Thacia. In the last chapter, Daniel finally accepts Jesus and chooses to follow him. Daniel realized that only love can bend the bow of bronze and lets go of all his hate and malice.
