Why are ancient human skulls important?

First, skulls, like other parts of living things, are made of Carbon, and archaeologists use Carbon-14 to find out the approximate age of an object.  Also, there is the condition of the skull--does it look like the owner died of some sort of trauma?  One can also deduct the quality of diet from tooth wear and guess at the age of the owner upon death.  There are also ways to see if the owner was male or female due to the size and shape of the skull.  In many cases, DNA analysis can also determine the ethnic makeup of the skull.  There are also other things that make skulls important, such as where it is found, its attachment to any other bones, and artifacts found in the vicinity of the skull.  All of these are important, because prehistoric man left very few clues as to how he lived.
