Smooth surfaces _____________ a lot of light.

When light rays strike an impenetrable surface (surface through which they cannot pass), they reflect. The amount of reflection is dependent on the properties of the surface. A light colored and really smooth surface will be able to reflect a lot of light. In comparison, a dark colored and rough surface may absorb part of the incident light, while the other part would undergo diffused reflection.

Examples of smooth surfaces include mirrors and water surfaces under calm conditions, among others. These smooth surfaces allow us to see ourselves clearly and carry out reflection photography, etc. Reflection off of smooth surfaces is called specular reflection, while that off of rough surfaces (such as our skin, dry road surface, etc.) is called diffused reflection.

Thus, we can say that smooth surfaces reflect a lot of light.

Hope this helps.
